Velvet – by Mary Hooper. Reviewed by Banana Girl (9)

Velvet Groves is an orphan, who works in Ruffold’s Steam Laundry. There is nothing unusual about that in 1900. Moving to a different position in the laundry, Velvet makes a mistake. This leads to Madame Savoya, a medium and clairvoyant, asking Velvet to become her personal maid.

As time goes by, Velvet is pulled deeper into Madame Savoya’s world of lies and tricks.

She asks Velvet to find out information about her clients to make her seem like a better medium.

but one day, Velvet finds something that puts her own life at risk…

I love this book because it is gripping and a bit creepy. I spent six hours straight reading it!
