Today is Thursday. Arthur Dent could never get the hang of Thursdays. First, Mr Prosser and his team come to demolish his house to make way for a bypass. Secondly, Arthur’s best friend, Ford Prefect, who is actually an alien from the galaxy of Betelgeuse who was stranded on Earth for the last 15 years, comes to tell him that the Earth is about to be demolished to make way for a hyperspace bypass.

The Earth is demolished. However, Ford and Arthur manage to hitch a ride on a green bug eyed monster onto a Vogon ship. They are thrown of the ship, but are rescued by a ship called Heart Of Gold, which is holding the president of the Galaxy, Zaphod Beeblebrox and his companion, Trillian. Also Zaphod is Ford’s half cousin. Then they are taken to the legendary planet of Magrethea.

This book is totally hilarious and very very silly indeed – and includes a rather dismal robot called Marvin, who is owned by Zaphod, and is so boring and depressed, when talking to another computer, the other computer committed suicide! ( Just to note, actually a book for adults, but all the same – very funny!)
