Funnybones – Janet and Allan Ahlberg. Reviewed by Banana Girl (9)

My mum used to read this to me when I was little, and I always like the funny pictures of the skeletons running around.

In a dark dark cellar live three skeletons. A big one, a little one and a dog skeleton. One night, the big skeleton says ” what shall we do tonight?” And the little one says ” let’s take the dog for a walk and frighten somebody!” So, they take the dog for a walk, and get up to all sorts of trouble, but they can’t find anyone to scare! So…they scare each other!

This book is special to me because I loved the pictures, as they are bold and bright, and I really liked the expressions on the skeletons faces. It was one of my favourite books, and when my mum got it out of the bookshelf, I would yell “sketitons”! As I could not pronounce “skeletons” properly then, and we would always sing the bone song that is in the book… ” the toe bone’s connected to the foot bone, the foot bone’s connected to the…”
