Pearl Power – Mel Elliott. Reviewed by Mango Bubbles Boy (10)

Pearl Power is moving house. So she is attending a new school. Pearl is nervous and anxious.

At playtime a boy called Sebastian shouted “HAHAHA You throw like a girl!” (they had been playing catch with a ball) but Pearl only said “Why thank you!”. Pearl decided that she would show Sebastian what a girl could do, she threw the ball so hard, it flew all the way to the moon!!!!!!! This kept going on, until at the end of the day Pearl found Sebastian crying on the school steps.

This is a great book! Because it is different to most other picture books. There is a message. This book was written to tackle gender stereotypes. I love it!
