One – Sarah Crossan. Reviewed by Banana Girl (11)

One is a book

About conjoined twins

And is written

Entirely in verse.

They are Tippi and Grace

Two pretty girls, separate

down to the waist.

They share legs.

And when one is ill

The other must stay with her.

When they are sixteen

They must go to school.

This is a big challenge.

They have never been to school before.

They are scared.

Then they make friends.

At school.

Jon and Yasmeen,

Who are different too.

And for a while, everything is ok.

Soon though,

A great decision lies ahead of them.

I learnt from the story

That there are people in the world

Who are different.

And that they have tough decisions.

And things can be hard for them.

And we must learn to understand that.

Everything has its limits.

Even sharing.

More so if you have no choice.

No privacy.

None.

The end

Was very sad

Though it was bittersweet in the way

That they both experience freedom

But each in their own way.

One drawing
