A Boy Called Christmas – Matt Haig. Reviewed by Future Author ABC (11)

I read this book because it sounded like a very good story and as soon as I started reading it I knew it was! I loved it!

It is all about a boy called Nikolas who lives alone with his father as his mother died years earlier. All is happy until his father is give an opportunity to go on a quest to find the elves who live many miles away. He will be given many riches if the mission is successful so he decides that since they are so poor, he should go. So poor Nikolas is left to the mercy of his horrible Aunt Carlotta, who cooks his turnip doll and makes him sleep out in the cold. It is so awful that Nikolas decides he must run away…

Thus follows an amazing story in which Nikolas meets elves, reindeer and more.

He has to prove himself worthy of being the Father Christmas we all know about today.
It is a fantastic story but there is a slightly sad bit at the end; I won’t give any more away though!

My favourite character is Nikolas himself because he has some interesting views on what happens to him in the story. All of the characters are unusual and the plot is very clever too.

I would recommend this to readers of 9-13 although of course if you are not within that age range it is still an awesome read!

It is a very good book and I definitely recommend it to all of you who like adventure and Christmas!
