Scythe – Neal Shusterman. Reviewed by Magic Girl (14)

In a world far beyond now, technology has proven to be in the heart of everyone’s lives. It has surpassed any obstacle, including death. Now, the only way one can become truly dead is to be “gleaned” by a scythe.

Scythes are people carefully chosen to master the art of killing. They are ruthless, precise, but fair. Citra and Rowan never wanted to be scythes. But as their paths collide with a scythe and each other, they begun to think. Maybe the art of gleaning might not be so bad after all…

Meanwhile, a scythe with power has begun to stir. He won’t stop until he gets what he wants. His ideals and ambitions are far from the traditional ways, but with loyal followers and his wits he just might accomplish what he wants…

I love this book because it just might become true. Think of a world where people never die. The population would become to big for earth to sustain. So death must continue to “live”, but in what way? I also love it because it tells of justice trying to fight the coming darkness, no matter how deadly the foe is.

My favorite character is probably Scythe Faraday, because he is more fair and just and kind than almost all the other scythes I’ve seen in the book. (Citra is a close second)
